Daniel Warren Garrard had moved from Vienna to Silver Creek, Illinois, when he enlisted in the Army on February 16, 1865. He married his first wife, Mary K. Battles, in Vienna in 1858, and took her to Illinois and then to Iowa after the conflict. Garrard returned to Vienna to marry in 1874 Mary J. Culver, a sister of Civil War veteran James Culver. Garrard’s brother Charles Thomas also served in the war.
