John Griffis and his wife Elizabeth Culver traveled with their son and two daughters from Connecticut to Vienna Township in 1828.

In 1828 came Mrs. John Griffis and her husband, from Connecticut, and three children, Daniel, Elizabeth and Rhoda. They traded property in Connecticut for property North of the center, where they lived and John died in 1853. Also his wife died a short time before him.
