As the leader of Vienna's Truesdell Post of the Grand Army of the Republic, John D. Henry was the person who interviewed Vienna’s remaining Civil War veterans in the 1890 Federal Census's veterans schedule. A veteran himself, Henry had been discharged in December 1862 for general disability 14 months after he enlisted as a Private in the infantry. Henry was raised in Kinsman and was working as a laborer in Johnson when he had to register for the draft in July 1863.
