Military Service: Twenty-one-year-old farmer William Loomis enlisted in the United States Army on March 30, 1814 for the duration of the War of 1812. He was described as 5' 11" tall, with blue eyes, brown hair, and a light complexion. He served in Captain David T. Welch's Company (37th Infantry) in Connecticut, at New London and at Fort Trumbull, and was discharged at New London on May 10, 1815.[1]

On December 1, 1815, William Loomis, then living in East Windsor, Connecticut, married Sallie M. Leamming (born June 14, 1797, in Barrington, Massachusetts) in Suffield, Connecticut.[2]

The couple and four of their children are listed in the 1850 Federal Census as living in Brookfield Township, Trumbull County, Ohio.
