The United States Census's 1890 Veterans Schedule for Vienna notes of James Woods that he had been wounded and had been a prisoner of war during his service with the 7th Pennsylvania Cavalry. Woods enlisted on August 10, 1862, and was mustered out of service on May 19, 1865. Woods fought at the fierce Battle of Chickamauga, along with many other men from Vienna.
