Mathews Alumni Basketball Game

The Mathews Alumni Basketball Game is an annual event that serves as a Mathews High School boys basketball program fundraiser. The game has been held each year since 2014 with the exception of 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event has always been held on “Black Friday,” the Friday after Thanksgiving, in the Mathews High School gymnasium. The game is open to all Mathews alumni but preference is given to those that played basketball in high school.

The event was started by head boys basketball coach, Mark Mollohan, who organized the event in 2014 through 2016. Since 2017, the game has been organized by boys varsity coach, Mike Weymer.

There are typically two games played; one for "older" alumni and one for "younger" alumni. The fee to participate in the event is $25.00 and includes a t-shirt for each participant. An admittance fee is charged for spectators.

Since its inception only men have participated in the games. With interest, the Mathews Rebounders Club (Basketball Booster Club) would be open to adding a women's alumni game in the future.
