Mathews Parent Teacher Organization

In 1992 the Mathews Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) was formed. The officers were:

President: Heidi Brown
Vice President: Melinda Furrie
Treasurer: Cheryl Vesey
Recording Secretary: Judy Riley
Corresponding Secretary: Debbie Sheridan

The many generous parents who participated are to be commended by the community. Through such fundraising activities as the Nearly New Shop, the PTO has provided much-needed financial support to the students and schools of the Mathews School District, raising $2,000 to upgrade computer programs and purchasing an Ellison machine and plates for Mathews High School. The organization provides scholarships and good citizen awards to graduating seniors, and savings bonds to valedictorians and salutatorians. In addition, the PTO funds annual attendance to Buckeye Boys' and Girls' State, observes Teacher Appreciation Day, and stages an annual welcome for Mathews' staff. Many more worthwhile projects too numerous to mention continue to support the children of the Mathews School District and promote community pride in education.
